I-80Donner Summit
SELECTED ROAD DATA

Sacramento to Reno

From the Sacramento Valley to the Sierra crest and into Nevada, a single trip can cross very different weather. Check the summit forecast at your estimated arrival, then confirm current restrictions on the California and Nevada sides.

~135 miles~2h 35m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-80CaliforniaNevadaMountain passes
I-70Eisenhower • Vail
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Denver to Grand Junction

The I-70 mountain corridor is not one uniform forecast. This check samples the tunnel approach, the central mountains and the western valleys. Allow extra time for stops and consult COtrip before approaching mountain restrictions.

~245 miles~4h 30m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-70ColoradoMountain passes
I-90Snoqualmie Pass
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Seattle to Spokane

Compare the wet western approach, Snoqualmie Pass and the drier inland sections on the same timeline. Summit conditions need their own check rather than a Seattle or Spokane city forecast.

~280 miles~4h 45m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-90WashingtonMountain passes
I-80Wind-exposed Wyoming
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Cheyenne to Salt Lake City

Across southern Wyoming, check wind as carefully as precipitation. This selected I-80 corridor includes exposed high-country checkpoints and the Utah approach; it is not a complete I-80 national report.

~440 miles~6h 40m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-80WyomingUtahOpen-country drives
I-5Western Oregon
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Portland to Medford

Follow a weather timeline through the Willamette Valley and the hills of southern Oregon. TripCheck remains the place to confirm lane closures, roadside observations and local restrictions.

~275 miles~4h 45m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-5OregonPacific routes
I-5Mount Shasta • Siskiyou
SELECTED ROAD DATA

Redding to Ashland

This northern I-5 crossing connects warmer valley sections with mountain terrain near Mount Shasta and Siskiyou Summit. Check both Caltrans and Oregon TripCheck because the state line is also a data boundary.

~140 miles~2h 40m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-5CaliforniaOregonMountain passes
I-40High-desert I-40
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Flagstaff to Albuquerque

High desert does not mean a weather-free drive. Compare conditions across the Arizona plateau, western New Mexico and the Albuquerque approach at estimated arrival times.

~325 miles~5h 10m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-40ArizonaNew MexicoOpen-country drives
I-15Utah to the Mojave
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Salt Lake City to Las Vegas

The I-15 drive crosses Utah, a short Arizona section and Nevada. Elevation, wind and temperature change along the route. Check every state authority rather than assuming the two endpoint states cover the whole trip.

~420 miles~6h 30m baseline6 checkpoints3 states
I-15UtahArizonaNevadaOpen-country drives
I-80 / I-76Midwest to Colorado
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Chicago to Denver

This selected corridor follows I-80 across the Midwest and Nebraska, then I-76 into Colorado. It does not go through Cheyenne or Wyoming. Six forecast checkpoints provide a broad planning view, not continuous coverage across this long drive.

~1,000 miles~16h baseline6 checkpoints4 states
I-80I-76IllinoisIowaNebraskaColoradoCross-country drives
I-95Florida Atlantic coast
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Jacksonville to Miami

Follow a forecast timeline down Florida’s Atlantic side, with separate checks for rain, thunderstorms and official alerts. FL511 provides the live road conditions this weather comparison cannot confirm.

~350 miles~5h 45m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-95FloridaEastern routes
I-75North Georgia I-75
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Atlanta to Chattanooga

A shorter interstate trip still benefits from checking weather when you reach each section. This corridor covers northern Georgia and the Chattanooga approach, with official state road links alongside the forecast.

~120 miles~2h 15m baseline5 checkpoints2 states
I-75GeorgiaTennesseeEastern routes
I-40Across the Cumberland Plateau
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Nashville to Knoxville

I-40 crosses a time-zone boundary and varied terrain between Nashville and Knoxville. Review the plateau checkpoints and read the local arrival-time labels instead of comparing clock times as though they shared one zone.

~180 miles~3h 10m baseline5 checkpoints1 state
I-40TennesseeEastern routes
I-10 / I-15Mojave I-15
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Los Angeles to Las Vegas

Leave the Los Angeles basin, climb through the Inland Empire and cross the Mojave before the Las Vegas valley. Heat, wind and mountain weather can differ sharply from the endpoint forecasts, so use the desert checkpoints and then confirm current restrictions in both states.

~270 miles~4h 20m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-10I-15CaliforniaNevadaOpen-country drives
I-17Desert to high country
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Phoenix to Flagstaff

I-17 climbs from the Phoenix desert into much cooler high country near Flagstaff. Check the elevation change on the route timeline instead of carrying a Phoenix forecast north into the mountains.

~145 miles~2h 25m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-17ArizonaMountain passes
I-5Pacific Northwest I-5
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Seattle to Portland

This I-5 corridor stays west of the Cascades but can still move through very different rain, wind and fog conditions. Use the central Washington checkpoints and the Columbia approach, then hand off from WSDOT to Oregon TripCheck.

~175 miles~2h 55m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-5WashingtonOregonPacific routes
I-25Raton Pass
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Albuquerque to Denver

The northbound I-25 drive leaves the Rio Grande valley, crosses northern New Mexico and reaches Colorado over Raton Pass. A single endpoint forecast misses the pass and the long weather transition north toward Pueblo and Denver.

~450 miles~7h baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-25New MexicoColoradoMountain passes
I-10Colorado Desert I-10
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Los Angeles to Phoenix

I-10 crosses the Southern California desert and enters Arizona before reaching Phoenix. Temperature, wind and dust can change across the long open sections, and the state-line clock needs to be read in the correct local zone.

~370 miles~5h 50m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-10CaliforniaArizonaOpen-country drives
I-80Northern Nevada I-80
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Reno to Salt Lake City

This long I-80 crossing runs through exposed northern Nevada before reaching the salt flats and Salt Lake City. Wind and winter weather can affect remote sections far from either endpoint, so the intermediate checkpoints matter.

~520 miles~7h 25m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-80NevadaUtahOpen-country drives
I-35E / I-35Central Texas I-35
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Dallas to Austin

The Dallas–Austin corridor runs through a busy central Texas spine where thunderstorms, heat and flash flooding can matter at different points in the drive. Use the weather timeline for timing and DriveTexas for current road conditions.

~195 miles~3h 10m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-35TexasSouthern routes
I-94 / I-90Upper Midwest
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Minneapolis to Chicago

This Upper Midwest corridor crosses Minnesota and Wisconsin before the Chicago approach. Winter road conditions, wind and visibility can vary widely over the drive, so use multiple checkpoints and all three state road sources.

~410 miles~6h 30m baseline6 checkpoints3 states
I-94I-90MinnesotaWisconsinIllinoisCross-country drives
I-5Southern California I-5
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

San Diego to Los Angeles

This coastal Southern California drive can move from marine-layer cloud and fog into warmer inland conditions while urban traffic changes the real arrival time. Use the checkpoint weather for timing, then confirm current road restrictions with Caltrans.

~120 miles~2h baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-5CaliforniaPacific routes
I-5Central Valley to Tejon Pass
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Sacramento to Los Angeles

The long I-5 run from Sacramento to Los Angeles crosses the Central Valley before climbing Tejon Pass. Heat, wind and pass weather can be very different from the two endpoint cities, so the intermediate checkpoints matter.

~385 miles~6h baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-5CaliforniaPacific routes
I-10Sonoran Desert I-10
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Phoenix to Tucson

A relatively short desert drive can still see sharp thunderstorm, dust and heat differences between Phoenix, Casa Grande and Tucson. Use the arrival-time checkpoints for weather context and Arizona 511 for current road information.

~115 miles~1h 50m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-10ArizonaSouthern routes
I-15Utah I-15
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Salt Lake City to St. George

I-15 runs from the Wasatch Front through central Utah before dropping toward the warmer southwest. Winter weather, wind and temperature can change materially across the route even when either endpoint looks quiet.

~300 miles~4h 40m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-15UtahOpen-country drives
I-25Front Range I-25
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Cheyenne to Denver

The short Front Range corridor crosses a state line and exposed high-plains terrain before reaching the Denver metro. Wind and winter weather can differ across the drive; road restrictions still require separate WYDOT and COtrip checks.

~105 miles~1h 45m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-25WyomingColoradoOpen-country drives
I-80 / I-76Nebraska Plains to Colorado
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Omaha to Denver

This long westbound corridor follows I-80 across Nebraska and then I-76 toward Denver. Long open stretches make intermediate wind, winter weather and visibility checks more useful than relying on Omaha and Denver alone.

~540 miles~8h 5m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-80I-76NebraskaColoradoCross-country drives
I-80Iowa to Chicago I-80
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Des Moines to Chicago

The I-80 run east from Des Moines crosses Iowa and northern Illinois before the Chicago approach. Wind, thunderstorms, fog and winter weather can change along the route while metro congestion remains outside the planning baseline.

~330 miles~5h 15m baseline6 checkpoints2 states
I-80IowaIllinoisCross-country drives
I-35Central Texas I-35
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Austin to San Antonio

The Austin–San Antonio corridor is short enough that thunderstorm, heat and flash-flood conditions can affect only part of the trip. Arrival-time checkpoints keep that weather context separate from the heavy traffic this baseline does not measure.

~80 miles~1h 25m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-35TexasSouthern routes
I-45Texas I-45
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Houston to Dallas

I-45 connects two major Texas metros through a long inland corridor where thunderstorms, heat and heavy rain can matter well away from either endpoint. Use the checkpoint timeline for weather and DriveTexas for current road restrictions.

~240 miles~3h 45m baseline6 checkpoints1 state
I-45TexasSouthern routes
I-75 / I-24Georgia to Tennessee
OFFICIAL ROAD LINKS

Atlanta to Nashville

The drive from Atlanta to Nashville crosses north Georgia, Chattanooga and the Cumberland Plateau before entering central Tennessee. Weather and local clocks change along the trip while current incidents remain a Georgia 511 and SmartWay check.

HOW TO USE A MATCH

Find → pulse → compare → verify.

The finder narrows the catalogue. The weather pulse checks current forecast context. The four-window checker compares departure timing. Official road sources finish the job.

01

Match the actual corridor.

City names, Interstate numbers and states come from the curated route definition.

02

Check weather, not “road safety.”

Weather uses selected arrival-time checkpoints. Unknown data stays unknown.

03

Open the official road source.

Closures, incidents and restrictions remain separate unless a bounded feed is explicitly integrated.

QUICK ANSWERS

What a route match means.

Can I enter any US origin and destination?

No. The finder searches the curated RoadAheadNow corridor catalogue. It does not silently turn an unsupported trip into an approximate match or arbitrary routing.

What does “selected road data” mean?

Only a bounded California section on explicitly labelled routes has selected Caltrans records integrated. Every route still links to the official road authorities for the states it crosses.

Does a route match mean the road is open?

No. Matching is based on catalogue facts such as city names, Interstate numbers, states, distance and route type. Road access and restrictions remain an official road-source check.

Are the mileage and time filters live traffic data?

No. Mileage and driving time are rounded corridor baselines. They do not include measured congestion, current closure delay, an address-to-address detour or unscheduled stops.
