Chain reports & camera metadata
Caltrans Districts 2 and 3 on the bounded California portions of Redding–Ashland and Sacramento–Reno. Both directions may be included.

Hourly forecasts and official active weather alerts at selected checkpoints.
Access: Free, no API key. NWS describes the API as open data, free to use for any purpose.
Limits: Not a road-status, road-surface, traffic or reopening-time service. Point sampling is not continuous route coverage. Public services have rate limits and can be interrupted.
Caltrans Commercial Wholesale Web Portal
Selected California camera metadata and chain-control records when validated and available.
Access: Documented no-charge data integration. Caltrans-created information is generally public domain unless otherwise indicated; third-party exceptions still apply.
Limits: District and route scope only, not nationwide. Images and camera observations have separate freshness limitations. No agency endorsement.
State DOT / 511 official services
Direct links to the relevant road authority for every selected corridor.
Access: Links only where a data integration has not been verified.
Limits: A link is not an integrated live feed. We do not count linked states as live road-data coverage.
Documentation reviewed October 5, 2026. Public APIs can change, impose limits or be unavailable. There is no promise of permanent access or uninterrupted service. Caltrans third-party material is not automatically cleared for reuse.

Incomplete, unavailable or stale
A required field is missing, a provider could not be reached, or the report is too old. A later departure recommendation is withheld when its weather inputs cannot be fairly compared.
No matching records
The available feed had no record matching our selected section. This is not proof of zero restrictions or an open road.
Not integrated
No verified adapter is active for that data layer. We show the official source link instead of inventing a result.
